Via Lactea granite bar area in New Berlin, Wisconsin.

Via Lactea granite in a honed finish on a bar area, with a square edge.

Honing takes granite to a smooth matte surface instead of a polish, so the white veining in a dark stone reads softly and glare stays low. Granite handles heat and everyday wear well. A New Berlin bar, in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

Via Lactea granite: what to know

Granite is one of the hardest and most durable natural stones we fabricate. It takes a hot pan, resists scratching, and is not etched by lemon, wine or vinegar. It is sealed at install and usually needs resealing only every few years, depending on the stone and how it is used. Beyond the familiar speckled colors, granite comes in bold, dramatic slabs that hold their own beside any quartzite.

On a bar, granite takes glasses, ice and spills without complaint.

Common questions
Polished, honed or leathered granite?

Polished is the classic shine. Honed is a soft matte. Leathered is a lightly textured matte that hides fingerprints and water spots, and it suits darker granites especially well.

Does granite need sealing?

Yes, but not often. It is sealed at install and usually needs resealing every few years, depending on the stone and how it is used.
