Stone Fireplace Surrounds

The fireplace is the wall the room is built around. Marble for warmth, soapstone for depth, porcelain for a seamless floor-to-ceiling drama — each fabricated to wrap the firebox cleanly.

The application

The wall the room faces.

A fireplace surround is stonework at its most visible — a focal wall, at eye level, usually lit. The choices are the material, the extent (a mantel and hearth, or floor to ceiling), and how the stone wraps the firebox: mitered returns that read as solid block, and a bookmatch when the veining deserves it.

Marble gives warmth and classic veining; soapstone is deep, matte, and naturally heat-proof; large-format porcelain is heat-proof and comes in slabs big enough to run floor to ceiling with almost no seams — and it's what we reach for when the design wants one uninterrupted surface.

Whatever the stone, the craft is in the miters and the match. Hearths are built from mitered material so they read as thick, solid stone.
